Learning outside the classroom

At Hill View we pride ourselves on our wonderful, learning rich outdoor classrooms and Nature School.

We invite any professionals who would like to develop their outdoor provision to come and visit. Please contact the school office 0191 5947962 to arrange a look round where you will be given a bespoke package including planning documents and detailed assessment sheets. (a small cost will apply)

At our school, we recognise that outdoor play is a vital part of children's learning and development. Time spent outdoors provides rich opportunities for exploration, creativity and active learning. Outdoor learning supports children's physical development by helping them to build strength, coordination and confidence through activities such as climbing, running and balancing. It also plays a key role in promoting wellbeing, allowing children to experience fresh air, reduce stress and develop resilience.

We value the way outdoor environments encourage curiosity and independence. Children are able to take risks in a safe and supported way, solve problems, and devleop their imagination through open-ended play. Whether they are building, investigating nature, or engaging in role play, they are developing essential communication and social skills.

By prioritising outdoor play, we ensure that all children have the opportunity to learn in a stimulating, engaging environmnet that supports their overall development and fosters a lifelong love of learning.

At Hill View Infant Academy outdoor learning is an integral part of our curriculum and ethos. Our children get muddy and they love it! We have designated outdoor classrooms as well as our very own Nature School.

Children lead their own learning and staff help them to develop skills such as working as a team, developing resilience and connecting with each other.

Our children develop their language and listening skills, telling each other stories and hypothesising about events in the natural world. We share what we find and explain our ideas to each other.

We solve problems together and push ourselves to take risks. We develop our friendships and make each other feel safe.
